Like prisoners emerging from a lifetime behind bars, a group of chimpanzees step blinking into the sunlight. This is the first time they have felt grass under their feet and breathed fresh air for 30 years. A few of the chimps were born in captivity but most were kidnapped from African jungles as babies and flown to Europe, where they were locked in metal laboratory cages to be used in a long series of experiments. Their ordeal finally ended in September 2011 when 38 of the surviving chimps were released into a sanctuary in Austria called Gut Aiderbichl, allowing them to feel the nurturing contact of their fellow chimps after years of being separated by bars and bullet-proof glass. LMC-3000 is a modern low-speed bench-top centrifuge designed for operation with microtest plates and centrifuge tubes up to 50 ml. This device is widely used in biomedical profile laboratories.
• Soft start and run-down of the rotor;
• User-friendly setting of centrifugation parameters
(speed and time) and simultaneous display of both
set and actual values;
• Safe operation at any speed is provided by metal
protection chamber and case cover, automatic stop
at imbalance and a lock keeping the lid closed while
the centrifuge is running;
• Low noise level;
• Wide choice of accessory rotors
It’s home to some of the nastiest viruses known to science, including Hendra virus and SARS. Located within the high containment facility at our Australian Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL), in Geelong Victoria, the AAHL Collaborative Biosecurity Research Facility is the world’s most advanced biosecure laboratory. This new facility provides Australia with the necessary biosecure and biosafe infrastructure required to undertake research to effectively tackle increasing biosecurity threats, both here in Australia and around the world.

The Medical Laboratory Assistant certificate program consists of 12 weeks of classroom instruction and laboratory training followed by a seven-week practicum. This program trains students to collect, process, and prepare patient specimens, enter data, perform clerical and reception services, perform electrocardiograms and urinalyses, and carry out basic laboratory procedures.
Mr. Andersen shows you how to sink leaf chads in preparation for the AP Biology photosynthesis lab. An empty syringe is used to remove gas from the leaves before the lab. As the chloroplasts absorb light they produce oxygen bubbles which eventually cause the leaves to float.

Study Laboratory Medicine
RMIT offers professionally accredited bachelor and master degrees in Laboratory Medicine.
RMIT’s Laboratory Medicine degree includes a work placement (professional practice) during the third and fourth year. Students work in laboratories at a number of major teaching hospitals in Victoria, including the Peter Macallum Cancer Institute, Austin Health and the Royal Children’s Hospital, as well as private pathology labs. They also have the opportunity to spend 12 weeks at an overseas laboratory.
Students gain hands-on experience using the latest equipment and operating systems, and also work as part of a large collaborative team of clinical staff and doctors.
